If you can only imagine a boisterous night in, peep Robin Thede’s TCA and Black Reel awarded variety show, A Black Lady Sketch Show, that includes four Emmy nominations since its 2019 release. With a cast of women like comedian and screenwriter Robin Thede herself, comedian Robert Townsend’s daughter and successor Skye Townsend, Buzzfeed comedian and Abbott Elementary creator, Quinta Brunson, Community series’ Yvette Nicole Brown, and comedians Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis, and Laci Mosley it’s no wonder they lose themselves in hilarious scenarios with many, many others.

Look forward to a punny behind the nativity scene, disco era bickering lounge singers stuck in limbo, a “bad bitch” support group run by Angela Bassett, and the 1997 show Smart Guy cast, Tahj Mowry and John Marshall Jones, reuniting for an ironic scrabble game.

The show isn’t just overflowing with graceful referencing and personality. The series is in its fourth season, and it continues to represent those comedic forces we don’t get to see and should. Even with a sketch show that center-stages the female black comedian in entertainment, it does not smug. With many familiar presences in comedy, tv and film, you are bound to find something to laugh about.
